How to Remove and clean the Throttle Body on Toyota Tacoma ?

Remove the Throttle Body

  • Drain the engine coolant into a container that can be securely sealed. Pull the accelerator and throttle cables from the throttle body. Take off the air cleaner hose and the resonator.

  • Label and the disconnect the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve hose, the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose and the engine wiring harness clamp. Take off the two bolts and hose clamp on the air intake connector and remove it.

  • Disconnect the PCV hose. Label the three vacuum hoses, the EVAP hose and the power steering idle-up hose, then disconnect all of them.

  • Remove the Throttle position sensor (TPS) and the IAC valve connectors. Loosen the nuts and bolts that hold the throttle body in place. Remove the nuts and bolts and lift off the throttle body.

  • Pull the gasket from the throttle body and discard it. Use a soft brush and carburetor cleaner to clean all the parts of cast aluminum. Clean the passages and openings with compressed air. Be sure to remove any gasket material and debris from the mating surfaces.
